A Minnesota dog kennel owner is facing serious animal torture charges after authorities allegedly discovered a shocking situation at her facility, Done Right Dogs, resulting in the tragic deaths of nine dogs. Moriah Shaleen Krondak, 30, was charged with 16 counts of animal torture following a disturbing welfare check conducted by the Kanabec County Sheriff’s Office and the Animal Humane Society.
As reported, the investigation began on April 8 when law enforcement conducted a welfare check and apparently found a horrific state inside Krondak’s home. Upon arrival, officers discovered several kennels located within the kitchen and living room, all of which were in disarray. Allegedly, many dogs were found covered in urine and feces, with no access to food or water. This situation led to the tragic conclusion of multiple dogs having been neglected for a prolonged period.
Among the survivors from this horrific scene was a border collie mix named Buddy, who was left in Krondak’s care for behavioral training. Kayla Volk, Buddy’s owner, spoke about the emotional turmoil she faced when she did not see her dog for 44 days. When she finally received news that Buddy had been located, the distressing details shocked her: he had lost 12 pounds and had several broken teeth, conditions reportedly resulting from significant neglect.
Krondak also had a golden retriever and a corgi in her care, both of whom were believed to have suffered severe malnourishment. According to veterinarians, the golden retriever had gone without food or water for at least six days, while the corgi was reportedly found injured and underweight, trapped inside a kennel caked in excrement. Additionally, two dogs belonging to Krondak were reportedly underfed and in poor health upon discovery.
The situation escalated when authorities apparently uncovered the remains of nine dogs, with four found deceased in the garage and five in a basement bedroom. Some of these animals had been “surrendered” to Krondak, while others were sent by rescue organizations for training or evaluation. Findings suggested these animals may have suffered from starvation and dehydration for weeks or even months prior to their deaths.
A heart-wrenching case involved a family who apparently boarded two dogs with Krondak only to return and find one had tragically died. The surviving dog displayed significant weight loss and appeared malnourished. Veterinarians raised alarms about the deceased dog’s suspicious circumstances and made a report to authorities, prompting further investigation into the kennel’s operations.
As of now, Krondak is being held at the Kanabec County Jail, facing multiple serious charges, including six gross misdemeanor counts and ten felony counts. Allegedly, she has not expressed any remorse for the alleged neglect and suffering inflicted upon the animals in her care, according to the documentation of the case.
The investigation into Done Right Dogs continues, and animal welfare advocates are calling for more stringent regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future, emphasizing the dire need for compassion and proper care in the treatment of vulnerable animals.
