A Virginia father is being remembered as a hero after he tragically lost his life while attempting to save a dog from oncoming traffic. Jack Leo Burdette Jr., 56, from Woodbridge, reportedly ran into the street to rescue a two-year-old Dalmatian/Pointer mix that had broken free and was running loose during rush hour on the morning of March 7.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, Burdette spotted the dog in danger on Dumfries Road near Old Stage Road and hurried into traffic without hesitation. While he successfully caught the dog and was returning to the safety of the sidewalk, he was reportedly struck by a 2022 Ram ProMaster van.
